DKIM (Domain Keys Identified Mail) is an email authentication technique that allows the receiver to check that an email was indeed sent and authorized by the owner of that domain.

SPF (Sender Policy Framework) is an authentication scheme that authorizes certain servers to send emails using your domain name.

DKIM and SPF authentication are critical to the delivery of your campaigns.

It makes your emails more credible, which eventually increases your email deliverability and reduces the probability of landing in spam folders.

Here is how to set up in Automizy.

1. Login to your Automizy account

Go to “Settings” and select “Domain Manager”.

2. Add your domain

Click on “Add first domain”.

Enter your domain name.

  1. You can copy and paste your website URL and the system will recognize the domain

  2. If you copy and paste your domain and after clicking "ADD" you see an error message, search for "hidden" characters like space, and delete it.

Click on “Authenticate”.

3. Copy your SPF/DKIM value

Automizy will automatically generate you:

  • DKIM TXT Record

  • SPF TXT Record

Copy your SPF/DKIM details which you need to paste into your domain records.

4. Paste your SPF/DKIM value

Next, you need to login to your hosting service to paste your TXT Records.

You have to create 2 new TXT records, one for SPF and the other for DKIM settings.

It depends on your DNS (Domain Name Service) host, here are the steps to follow:

  1. Login to your hosting service

  2. Access your domain DNS setting

  3. Add a new record

  4. Select “TXT” as record type.

  5. Pase the SPF/DKIM TXT name and value generated in your Automizy account.

  6. Save setting.

If your DKIM record is not found in the domain's DNS yet, have no worries.

Your domain will authenticate within a few hours. In some instances, it can take from 24 to 48 hours.

If you inserted your DKIM records to your domain DNS setting but it failed, recheck it the next day and click on the “CHECK DNS RECORD” button again to see if it is validated.

Do you have an existing SPF record in your domain setting?

Automizy will automatically generate for you an SPF value that:

  • Saves the data of your already-existing SPF record.

  • Add Automizy SPF value to it.

In this case, you don’t have to create a new SPF TXT record, but you just need to update the existing value with the new value generated in your Automizy account.

Here is an example:

The existing SPF record I have is the Outlook protection TXT. When I generate my SPF setting in Automizy, instead of having simple SPF record for Automizy like this:

TXT "v=spf1 include:spf.automizy.com -all"

It automatically included my existing SPF record and merged it, and here is the generated SPF value:

v=spf1 include:spf.protection.outlook.com include:spf.automizy.com -all

All you have to do at this point is to update the existing SPF record with the value generated in Automizy.

5. Check DNS records

Right after you paste SPF/DKIM records to your DNS, get back to Automizy and click “Check DNS Records”.

You will receive a confirmation message that your domain is successfully authenticated.

That’s all, setting up SPF and DKIM records will help you deliver email to inboxes and prevent landing in spam or junk folders.

Important: The sender email address you use in your campaign must include the domain name you authenticated.

If you don't use your authenticated domain for sending, your emails won't have DKIM authentication so the risk of getting into spam will be much higher.
