In this guide I will show you how to follow up with a thank you email to your lead magnet downloaders.

Here are the actions we’d like to do in this automation:

  1. Tag contacts who download a lead magnet to identify them.
  2. Send a follow-up thank-you email to lead magnet downloaders.

Here is how it’s done.

Start with creating a new automation.

In your “Automations” page click on “New Automation”.

Choose the blank canvas to build your automation:

Name your automation to make it easier to identify.

Your email trigger is the event that will launch your automation. In our case, the trigger is contact opt-in for your lead magnet.

Our automation trigger will be a “contact fills out a form”. Feel free to use other triggers based on how contacts opt-in for your lead magnet.

Logically, after the trigger, you add the lead magnet email that delivers the promised document.

Click on the “+” icon to add an email.

Next, choose your email builder, or feel free to use Automizy’s pre-built email templates.

Once you select your template or builder, setup your email setting and subject line.

Now in the step, you should be in the email builder.

To identify contacts who downloaded your free ebook or other lead magnets, you will have to apply a contact tag to contacts who click on the download button.

To do that select your download CTA in the email layout, and add your lead magnet URL.

Then click on “Settings” to add the tag to your link clickers.

Then click on “Action”.

Identify the link of your lead magnet, and right in front of it, click on “Add tag”.

Select an existing tag you have to apply to link clickers, or just create a new tag and click on “Add tag” to save it.

Now you’ll see that under your lead magnet link, a tag added.

Once you finish creating your email and adding the tag, click next to save your email and add it to the automation.

Now you have your email added with a setting to apply a tag to lead magnet downloaders, the next step is to add an automated thank-you email.

Click in the “+” icon, and add a waiting period to your automation.

You must apply a waiting period after your first email to give your contacts time to interact with your email and download the ebook.

In this automation, I’ll add 2 days waiting period, and after the second day, I send the thank-you email to lead magnet downloaders.

Now my condition is only to send a follow-up thank-you email to contacts who downloaded the ebook.

To be able to do that, use a condition.

Contacts who clicked the lead magnet URL in your first email, gets “lead-magnet-downloader” tag.

So now the condition should be if a contact has a tag. And if yes, send a thank-you email.

Select “subscriber has a tag” as a condition.

Select your tag and click “Ok” to save it.

Lastly, in the “Yes” branch, add your thank-you email.

That’s it! By the end, you have identified contacts who downloaded your lead magnet and automated a thank-you email.

Your automation will look like the following.
